Every single day as a creator has obstacles. And each challenge can push you down a bit (simply like every triumph– no matter how small– brings you back up.) The rollercoaster goes up and down multiple times a day and its a wild ride.
Great co-founders recognize when youre wobbling, and provide the necessary shoulder, assistance and “zest” to keep you pressing forward. Great co-founders get the slack, just a bit, to re-inspire you when the rollercoaster is heading down, knowing that their efforts will bring you back more powerful than ever.
When youre feeling a bit down, a bit bruised, a bit like youve been punched consistently in the face by a 600-pound gorilla, youve got to depend on your co-founders to bring you back. When required, fantastic co-founders are there to offer the best pick-me-up and emotional assistance. Excellent co-founders are there to listen, comprehend and re-invigorate you when youre feeling low. And the relationship is reciprocal. Your co-founder will have her moments too, when shes feeling a bit used down and needs to be re-energized.
Theres something about the insane challenge that makes beginning a business so incredible. Having stated that, I actually do not take pleasure in being informed Im incorrect, or that my plan/idea/approach will not work. (I dont know many people who like that!) And when individuals inform me, “Thatll never ever work,” I feel it. Ive got reasonably thick skin, but it stings just the same. Every startup deals with a constant cycle of “bumps on the roadway”– and they hurt.
Having a real function and vision assists. Its the structure that you develop your start-up on, and excellent co-founders are there to remind you of that purpose and vision, to be sincere and speak openly, when they see you swaying away or letting the frustration seep in too deeply. Its easy to take a little bit of consumer or financier feedback and wish to re-steer the ship quickly, hoping that youll point it in the best direction. An excellent co-founder exists to take an action back, examine things honestly and steer with a constant hand.
You know whats hard? Starting a company.
You understand whats fun? Starting a business.
Its difficult to remain on track and focused on what matters all the time.
